This policy explains what personal information Storage Stockport collects about you, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it and what rights you have. Please read it carefully. If anything is unclear, contact us using the details at the end.

Who we are

Storage Stockport ("we", "us", "our") operates the self storage facility and the website at www.storagestockport.com. Storage Stockport is a trading name of Self Storage Tameside Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 10083380, with its registered office at 150 Holland Street, Denton, Manchester, England, M34 3GG.

We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy. That means we decide what information is collected and how it is used.

We handle personal information in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, and with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations where they apply to our website and marketing.

You can reach us about anything in this policy by emailing sales@storagestockport.com or calling 0161 304 5695.

Information about other people

If you give us information about someone else, for example an alternative contact, a next of kin or a referee, please make sure they know you have done so and that you are entitled to share their details with us. We will use their information only for the purpose you gave it to us.

Sensitive information

We do not normally ask for special category information, which includes information about health, ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, political opinions, trade union membership, sex life or sexual orientation, or genetic and biometric data, or information about criminal offences. We will only ask for it where there is a clear reason, for example if you tell us you are having difficulty managing your account because of illness, and we will explain why we need it at the time.

Children

Our services are aimed at adults and we do not knowingly collect information about children. If you believe we hold information about a child, contact us and we will look into it.

How we collect it

  • Directly from you, in person at our site, by telephone, by email, by post, through live chat, or through forms on our website such as enquiry and callback forms.
  • Automatically when you use our website, through cookies, analytics and our call management system.
  • From CCTV and door entry systems when you visit our facility.
  • From third parties, such as fraud prevention agencies, referees, and companies who refer enquiries to us.

Telephone calls and call tracking

Calls to telephone numbers displayed on this website may be routed through our call management system. When you call us, we record the number you called from, the number dialled, and the date, time and duration of the call, together with information about how you found our website, such as whether you arrived via a search engine or an advert. We use this information to respond to your enquiry, return missed calls, and measure the effectiveness of our advertising. Calls are not recorded.

Because of this system, the telephone number shown on the website may differ between visits or between pages. This does not change who you are calling. Your call connects to Storage Stockport in the normal way.

The number you call from and the details of the call are held by us and by the communications provider that operates the system on our behalf. Our lawful basis for this processing is our legitimate interests in answering enquiries promptly, following up calls we miss, and understanding which advertising and marketing activity works. You can object to this processing at any time using the contact details below, and you can withhold your number when you call if you prefer.

We keep call records for [24 MONTHS] and then delete them, unless the call led to an enquiry or a storage agreement, in which case the record is kept with your customer file for the period set out under how long we keep it.

Where you contact us through other channels, such as email, our website forms or live chat, we keep a record of that contact so that we can deal with your enquiry and respond to any later query about it.

Cookies and website analytics

A cookie is a small file placed on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies, such as local storage and tracking pixels, work in comparable ways. We use them to make the site work, to understand how it is used, to match the telephone number shown on the page to the way you arrived at the site, and to measure and improve our advertising.

Cookies that are strictly necessary for the website to work do not need your permission. For everything else, including advertising cookies and cookies shared with third parties, we ask for your consent when you first visit the site and you can change your choice at any time through the cookie settings link on the site. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings, although parts of the site may not work properly if you do.

Full details of the cookies we use, what they do and how long they last are set out in our cookie policy.

Why we use your information

We rely on different lawful bases depending on what we are doing.

To enter into or perform a contract with you

  • Responding to enquiries and providing quotes.
  • Preparing and managing your storage agreement and arranging insurance cover if you ask us to.
  • Managing your account, taking payment and issuing invoices and receipts.
  • Contacting you about the service you have signed up for, including changes that affect you.
  • Dealing with complaints, disputes and overdue payments.
  • Processing job applications and administering employment.

To meet our legal obligations

  • Keeping accounting and tax records.
  • Verifying identity and meeting anti-fraud, anti-money laundering and other reporting obligations where they apply to us.
  • Responding to lawful requests from the police, courts and regulators.
  • Health and safety, and employment law obligations for our staff.

For our legitimate interests

Where we rely on legitimate interests we have considered whether the processing is fair to you and whether it affects your rights. These interests include:

  • Following up enquiries and offering storage that suits your needs.
  • Keeping the facility and the goods stored in it secure, including through CCTV and access control.
  • Preventing and detecting fraud, theft, damage and misuse of our facility.
  • Understanding how our website and advertising perform, including through call tracking and analytics, so we spend our marketing budget sensibly.
  • Improving our services, our website and our customer service.
  • Recovering debts and protecting our legal position.

With your consent

  • Non-essential cookies and similar technologies.
  • Marketing by email or text where the law requires your consent.
  • Any use of special category information.

Where we rely on consent you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.

Marketing

If you are an existing customer, or you have enquired about storage, we may send you information about our storage services and offers by email or text. Every message includes a way to stop receiving them, and you can also tell us at any time by emailing sales@storagestockport.com. We do not sell or rent your details to other organisations for their own marketing.

CCTV and site access

We operate CCTV throughout the facility and record entry to and exit from the site. We do this to keep customers, staff and stored goods safe, to meet our obligation to provide a secure storage environment, to investigate breaches of your storage agreement, and to assist the police or our insurers where there has been a crime or an incident. Signs are displayed at the site. Footage is held for [30 DAYS] and then overwritten, unless it is needed for an ongoing investigation, claim or legal proceedings.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only where we need to. Recipients may include:

  • Suppliers and service providers who work for us, including telephony and call management providers, website hosting and analytics providers, IT and payment providers, payroll and accountancy support, and debt collection agencies.
  • Insurers and insurance brokers, where you take out cover arranged through us.
  • Fraud prevention agencies.
  • The police, local authorities, courts, HMRC and other public bodies where we are required to help with an investigation or comply with the law.
  • Anyone you have named on your account as a contact we may speak to, or anyone acting for you such as an attorney, legal guardian or executor.
  • Our professional advisers, such as solicitors and accountants.
  • A buyer, or the buyer's advisers, if we sell or restructure the business, in which case your information will continue to be protected under this policy or one that offers equivalent protection.

Where a supplier processes personal information for us, they act on our instructions under a written contract and cannot use it for their own purposes.

If you have given us the details of an alternative contact, we may speak to that person about your account, particularly if we cannot reach you. You can remove an alternative contact at any time by contacting us.

Transfers outside the UK

We store personal information in the UK wherever possible. Some of the technology suppliers we use, such as website, communications and analytics providers, are based outside the UK or use infrastructure outside the UK. Where information is transferred outside the UK, we make sure it is protected by an appropriate safeguard recognised under UK law, such as UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum. You can ask us for details of the safeguards that apply.

Keeping your information secure

We have security measures in place to protect personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Access is limited to people who need it to do their job, and they are bound by a duty of confidentiality. We have a procedure for dealing with suspected data breaches and will notify you and the regulator where we are required to do so.

No transmission of information over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of information sent to us online. If you have a specific concern, please contact us.

Our website may link to other websites. Those sites have their own privacy and cookie policies and we are not responsible for how they handle your information. Please read their policies before providing them with personal information.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it.

  • Customer records: six years from the end of your storage agreement, to cover our legal, tax and contractual obligations.
  • Enquiries that do not lead to a storage agreement: [24 MONTHS] from your last contact with us.
  • Call tracking records: [24 MONTHS], as described above.
  • CCTV footage: [30 DAYS], unless needed for an investigation, claim or legal proceedings.
  • Unsuccessful job applications: six months from the date of your application.
  • Marketing preferences and opt outs: kept indefinitely so we can honour your choice.

Your rights

You have the following rights over the personal information we hold about you:

  • Access: ask for a copy of the information we hold about you.
  • Rectification: ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete.
  • Erasure: ask us to delete information where there is no good reason for us to keep it.
  • Restriction: ask us to pause our use of your information while a query is resolved.
  • Objection: object to processing we carry out on the basis of legitimate interests, including call tracking and analytics, and object at any time to direct marketing.
  • Portability: receive certain information you gave us in a machine readable format, or ask us to send it to another organisation.
  • Withdraw consent: where we rely on your consent, withdraw it at any time.

To exercise a right, email sales@storagestockport.com or write to us at the address below. Please tell us what you are asking for and include enough detail for us to find your records. We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act, and if we do, the time limit for our response starts when we have what we need. We will respond within one month, and will tell you if we need longer because your request is complex or you have made several requests. There is normally no charge.

Automated decisions

We do not make decisions that produce legal effects for you, or that significantly affect you, purely by automated means without human involvement. If that ever changes, we will tell you, and you will be able to ask for the decision to be reviewed by a person, express your point of view and contest the outcome.

How to complain

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please tell us first so that we have the chance to put it right. You can complain by email to sales@storagestockport.com, by post to the address below, or by using the contact form on our website. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days of receiving it, keep you updated while we look into it, and tell you the outcome.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can raise the matter with the UK data protection regulator, currently the Information Commissioner's Office, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
